PetSmart® Hosts Pet Food Drive to Help Pets Impacted by Natural Disasters

During National Pet Preparedness Month, PetSmart Shoppers Can Participate in a Pet Food Drive Benefiting Local Animal Welfare Organizations and Their Efforts to Help Pets During Emergencies

PHOENIX – June 15, 2018 – June is National Pet Preparedness Month, and with hurricane and wildfire seasons well underway, PetSmart® has launched a pet food drive in its 1,600 stores across North America. The food drive is designed to help provide local animal welfare organizations with a stockpile of pet food in the event of an unexpected emergency or natural disaster.

“Last year, thousands of pets were left homeless or displaced following historic storms like Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, and the wildfires that affected northern parts of California and British Columbia,” said David Haworth, DVM, PhD, president of PetSmart Charities®, the leading funder of animal welfare in North America. “During emergencies, local animal welfare organizations are on the front lines providing food, shelter and care to pets in need. Having access to a steady supply of healthy, quality pet food is key to a shelter’s ability to sustain the intake of pets until they are nursed back to health and reunited with their forever families.”

From Friday, June 15, through Sunday, July 8, PetSmart customers are invited to purchase and donate dry or wet dog and cat food in stores to be delivered to nearby animal welfare organizations assisting pets in need in their community.

To further support local animal welfare organizations in their mission to help pets in need, customers may also make a donation to PetSmart Charities at the PIN pad located at the registers in all PetSmart stores year-round.
